Almost African is a seasonal filter blend from Quickborn Roastery that combines the energy and acidity typical of African coffees with a modern twist that sets it apart from classic blends. The roast is designed for filter preparation to bring out the purity and fruity character in the cup. The taste will captivate you with exotic notes of passion fruit, which give the cup a tropical freshness, complemented by juicy grapefruit accents and the delicate sweetness of raspberries, creating a harmonious and memorable profile. The acidity is lively and bright, but not sharp, making the blend pleasant to drink from the first sip to the last.

This blend was created by combining two very different origins, each with a unique contribution to the final flavor. Part of the coffee comes from Kenya, specifically Kirinyaga County, from the Thirikwa Farmers' Cooperative Society, where small farmers collectively grow Arabica at an altitude of 1,600-1,700 meters above sea level. Grown on red volcanic soil with abundant rainfall, the beans from this region bring the structural clarity and juicy acidity that have made Kenyan coffees famous around the world. The second component is beans from ColombiaFinca Río Negro in the Huila region (1,650 meters above sea level), a family farm with a long tradition, where modern varieties such as Bourbon Rosado, Pink Bourbon, and Yellow Bourbon are grown today . The Colombian component adds intense tropical and citrus notes to the blend, balancing the acidity of the Kenyan part with its sweetness.

The processing of the blend is well thought out and two-stage. The Kenyan part is treated using the classic washed method – after hand-picking the ripe cherries, they are fermented in water and dried on raised beds, which results in a clean cup and bright acidity. The Colombian component was processed by co-fermentation with fruit puree (passion fruit and orange)—freshly de-pulped beans fermented in closed containers with fruit and selected yeasts, which promoted the development of aromas and sweet fruit tones. Subsequent sun drying for 8 days stabilized the profile and maintained the balance between fruitiness and purity. The result is a blend that offers fresh acidity, fruity complexity, and an energetic character, ideal for anyone who loves filtered coffees with a distinctive expression.
