This Colombian coffee from Poppy Beans is exactly the kind of coffee that delights with its distinctive aroma, sweet fruitiness, and elegant floral notes. In the cup, notes of peach, passion fruit, and rose petals come together, giving the coffee a juicy, fragrant, and very clean character. The peach brings a soft sweetness, the passion fruit adds tropical freshness, and the rose beautifully softens the entire profile.

The coffee comes from Colombia, specifically from the Bruselas area in the Huila region, and more precisely from the Los Nogales farm. Behind the project is the Hernández family, most notably Oscar Hernández—a third-generation farmer and the farm’s leading figure. His father, Ricaurte Hernández, helped put the Bruselas area on the map for specialty coffee when he won the Colombian Cup of Excellence in 2006. Oscar is continuing this legacy and has gradually built Los Nogales into a place known for innovation, the sharing of expertise, and a meticulous approach to processing. The coffee grows at an elevation of 1,600–2,000 meters above sea level, and the variety used is Geisha.

The beans were processed using the Mosto Fermented Natural method. The cherries are harvested exclusively by hand, and for this edition, only perfectly ripe fruits from the peak of the harvest are selected, when they have the highest concentration of sugars and aromatic compounds. After harvesting, the cherries are washed with treated water and undergo a floating process to remove unripe and defective fruits. This is followed by a 24-hour fermentation of the whole cherries and slow drying in a dark room with controlled temperature and humidity. The result is a clean, elegant, and highly aromatic coffee that you’ll enjoy most when brewed with a filter!

I love it! I went back to stock up on a few packs, which I don’t usually do. I guess that says it all.

A wide range of flavors, but none of them overpower the others. Everything is perfectly balanced. Like a good orchestra—you can distinguish the individual notes, but the greatest joy comes from how beautifully they play together.

It reminds me of a coffee I tasted at Beanroom in Taiwan, which I still consider one of the best coffee experiences I’ve ever had.
