This Rumudamo coffee from Ethiopia, roasted at Poppy Beans in Brno, will captivate you with its sweetness and balance. The flavor profile features notes of raspberries, apricots, and honey, complemented by a delicate floral note. The sweetness of ripe stone fruits is balanced by a pleasant, medium-intensity acidity reminiscent of apples. The complex and elegant profile is complemented by a long, honeyed aftertaste that lends the cup a pleasant depth and balance. This coffee is roasted for drip brewing and is perfect for a leisurely morning cup or an afternoon break when you want to slow down for a moment.
The coffee comes from the high-altitude Rumudamo area in the Arbegona district of Ethiopia’s Sidama region. It is one of the major growing areas managed by Daye Bensa, which sources coffee from several surrounding villages. Rumudamo takes its name from a nearby village, and the name has two meanings: “fertile land” and “a place with many tree roots.” Both refer to the area’s fertile soil and lush vegetation. The coffee trees grow at an elevation of 2, 200–2,400 meters, which, together with the local environment, creates favorable conditions for growing specialty coffee.
This lot consists of the JARC 74112 variety and is processed using the natural (or dry) method. This method is often used in areas with water shortages, particularly in Africa and the arid regions of Latin America. In this process, the coffee cherries are dried whole, with the beans still inside the pulp and skin. Only after drying are the outer layers of the fruit removed, yielding green coffee beans ready for further sorting and roasting. Natural processing enhances the coffee’s sweetness, fuller body, and more pronounced fruity character.
