Juicy, clean, and with a beautiful tea-like character—that’s this Kenya Kiandu AA from the Brno-based roastery Poppy Beans. The flavor profile combines mirabelle plum, gooseberry, and green tea, complemented by a higher level of sweetness and a pleasant apple-like acidity. Compared to the classic Kenyan profile, this coffee leans more toward yellow fruit and comes across as softer and smoother. The result is a fresh and elegant cup with a clean character that will particularly delight lovers of fruity and lighter filter coffees. The coffee has an SCA score of 87 points

The coffee comes from the Tetu area in the Nyeri region, from the Kiandu washing station, which is located on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. It operates under the Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society, and approximately 806 smallholder farmers supply the cherries here. The coffee trees grow at an elevation of 1,700–1,810 meters above sea level on fertile volcanic soils. The lot consists of typical Kenyan varieties— SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian—and the AA designation refers to the size grade of the beans, which is determined during subsequent sorting.

The cherries are processed using the washed method with double fermentation. After the skin is removed, the cherries undergo overnight dry fermentation, thorough washing in sorting channels, and further soaking for 24 to 48 hours. The coffee is then slowly dried on elevated African drying beds, where it is regularly turned and hand-sorted during the drying process. Thanks to this meticulous process, it retains the high purity, bright fruitiness, and tea-like lightness that are so characteristic of this lot.
