This vibrant and juicy Kenyan coffee from the Slovak roastery Quickborn Roastery is a great choice for lovers of washed coffees with an unconventional flavor profile. The initial notes delight us with the tropical fruitiness of passion fruit combined with a hint of juicy lime. These are then complemented by the subtle spiciness of cola and the sweetness of panela. The individual notes in the cup create a complex flavor experience suitable for everyday enjoyment as well as a pleasant way to brighten up your day.
The Nyeri Hill Farm has a long history in Kenya; the first coffee trees were planted here as early as the beginning of the 20th century. Today, it is one of the largest farms in the region and even has its own washing station for processing coffee. Farmers here cultivate varieties typical of Kenya, such as SL28, SL34, Ruiru11, and Batian. In addition to coffee, however, they also grow tea and agricultural crops for the surrounding communities in the farm’s higher-altitude areas.
Nyeri Hill AB coffee is processed using the washed method typical of Kenya. The coffee cherries are hand-picked and then carefully sorted to ensure perfect ripeness and remove any defective beans. The pulp is then removed, and the beans are transferred to fermentation tanks where they remain for 24–48 hours. After fermentation, they are washed and submerged in water again, this time for 12 to 72 hours. In the final stage, the coffee beans are dried on raised beds.
