The Coffee Collective, a Danish roastery behind this exceptional coffee, prides itself on its ability to select and roast the finest coffees from around the world. KIENI is a coffee from Kenya that will enchant you with its sweetness and full body, along with unique notes of blackcurrant, redcurrant, and plums. This selection is known for its intense fruity flavor and refreshing acidity, making it an unforgettable experience for all specialty coffee lovers. Kieni coffee is the result of careful selection and roasting, which preserves its natural properties and provides a perfect balance of flavors.

The Kieni farm, where this coffee is grown, is located in the Nyeri region in Kenya. The farm is managed by the Kieni cooperative, which brings together 1,000 smallholder farmers and is run by Josphat Kariuki. The farm is situated at an altitude of 1,818 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for growing high-quality coffee. The Kieni cooperative has been a partner of the roastery since 2010, and over the years, Kieni coffee has become one of the best coffees in the roastery's offering. Thanks to the careful selection and long-term partnership between the cooperative and the roastery, an incredibly high-quality coffee has been achieved.

The processing of this coffee is key to its exceptional flavor. Kieni coffee undergoes the traditional washed process, which enhances its clarity and fruity notes. After harvest, which takes place between November and December, the coffee cherries are carefully selected and fermented, allowing the rich flavors and aromas to shine. Thanks to the transparent trading approach of the roastery, which pays the Kieni cooperative a bonus of 113% above the market price, financial stability for the farmers and consistent high quality of this exceptional coffee are ensured.

The flavor profile is spot on; once I fine-tuned the recipe, the cup has the tartness of rhubarb and the bitterness of black currants
I was expecting a lighter roast—it took me a while to get the brewing right (mainly by using a lower temperature to avoid bitterness)
