This time, Quo Coffee has selected a classically styled Kenyan coffee from the Kirinyaga region . Karithathi Kabingara PB is exactly the kind of coffee that will delight all fans of fresh, clean, and distinctly fruity pour-over brews. In the cup, expect the sweetness of red currants, a bright gooseberry acidity, and a creamier finish reminiscent of lemon meringue. It’s not a heavy or smooth chocolate coffee, but a beautifully juicy pour-over with an energy that will wake you up instantly. If you like coffees that feel lively, fresh, and have a clearly defined flavor profile, this Kenyan will be just right for you. It’s bold but not aggressive. Fruity, yet still elegant. And above all, it has that typical Kenyan character that’s hard to miss in the cup.
The coffee comes from the Kabingara Factory, which is part of the Karithathi Cooperative. The cherries grow in the Kirinyaga region of Kenya at an altitude of around 1 , 600 meters above sea level. This area is well-known for specialty coffee, mainly thanks to coffees with bright acidity, fruity sweetness, and a very clean profile. The SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties give the coffee its typical Kenyan character: juiciness, currant notes, a citrusy undertone, and an elegant structure.
The beans were processed using the washed method. This results in a clean, clear, and beautifully fresh cup. The washed process helps highlight the fruitiness and bright acidity, so this Kenyan coffee is best enjoyed with a filter, where its currant-gooseberry character and gently creamy lemon finish truly shine. In a V60 or Origami, it will come across as light, juicy, and very aromatic; in a batch brew, it will beautifully showcase its drinkability and clarity. This is a coffee for those moments when you don’t just want “something good,” but a cup with drive, freshness, and personality. If you’re looking for a pour-over that tastes like red fruit, a citrus dessert, and a juicy summer refreshment all in one, you’ve come to the right place.
