This Colombian coffee from the Swedish roaster Quo Coffee in Skärhamn is a filter coffee that emphasizes subtlety, elegance, and a very smooth flavor profile. The cup reveals notes of green tea, buttery caramel, and fresh figs, giving the coffee a light, sweet, and subtly tea-like character. This is a Gesha that doesn’t rely on ostentatious extravagance, but rather on calmness, purity, and a precisely constructed profile that blends delicate aromatics with a rounder sweetness.
The coffee comes from Colombia, from the Tarqui area in the Huilaregion, and is produced by Yobani Ramos and Yaved Guarnizo at the Finca la Fuente farm . Quo notes that they have been working with them for ten years and that their small mountain farm is primarily planted with Pink Bourbon and Colombia trees, set among natural forest and the surrounding landscape. However, this lot is a Gesha variety and grows at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, which provides the coffee with ideal conditions for slow maturation and the development of very delicate, clean aromas. It is precisely this high altitude and the producers’ meticulous work that are very clearly reflected in the final cup.
Processing is done using the washed method, which gives this Gesha clarity, lightness, and a precisely defined profile. The washed process allows the tea-like character of green tea, the smoother sweetness of buttery caramel, and the delicate fruitiness of fresh figs to shine through. The result is a filter coffee that feels very clean, light, and elegant, with a delicate profile that is best appreciated during a slower, focused preparation.
