Kick off the summer with Ethiopian coffee from Kmen Coffee Roasters - the hit of the summer season. Daanisa was one of the very first coffees ever roasted at Kmen, and its return is pure nostalgia. A literal liquid summer awaits you in your cup. An explosion of flavors— peach iced tea, yellow raspberries, and apricot pulp. If you’re looking for the perfect refreshment on hot days, this fruity gem is the clear choice. Tip: Make it into a cold brew—you won’t want to drink anything else.

The Daanisa growers’ group consists of 44 farmers who deliver their coffee to the Dambi Uddo processing station . The name comes from the local name for a native tree with an umbrella-shaped crown. The daanisa tree has medicinal properties and is widely used in construction. For local coffee growers, however, its most important feature is its ability to provide shade for coffee trees. Dambi Uddo Agro Industry established the Dambi Uddo processing station in 2019. It is located in the Sukkee Qutto area of the Guji region, where the high altitude (often exceeding 2,000 meters) provides ideal conditions for growing specialty coffee.

This lot is the result of the work of 44 farmers whom the Dambi Uddo station has identified as producers of top-quality coffee. Their coffee cherries are processed separately to ensure 100% traceability. The farmers harvest the coffee cherries by hand, selecting only the ripe ones, and then transport them to the processing station or to local collection points. At the station, the coffee is sorted again to ensure that only the ripest cherries proceed to the next step. A buyer personally oversees the quality of the cherries before processing begins. Natural coffees, such as this one, are first washed in water (a process called flotation) to remove unripe, damaged, or overly light cherries, as well as any impurities. After cleaning, the cherries are transferred directly to raised African drying beds, where they are spread out in a single layer to dry. The cherries are regularly turned and sorted by hand to remove any damaged cherries that passed the initial inspection. The total drying time can take up to three weeks if it is cloudy, or two weeks if the weather is sunny.
