Sasaba from the Kmen roastery is a light and fruity espresso that will delight lovers of clean Ethiopian coffees. In the cup, it combines the sweetness of ripe nectarines with the freshness of a green apple and a fragrant aftertaste reminiscent of Earl Grey tea. The result is a refreshing, beautifully balanced coffee with a clean body, perfect for warm days or whenever you’re in the mood for a juicier espresso.

The coffee comes from the Guji region of Ethiopia, specifically the Kercha area and the Sasaba processing station. The station is run by Tsegay Hagos Tesfaye, who works with more than 500 smallholder farmers from the surrounding hills. Heirloom coffee trees grow here at an elevation of around 2,100 meters, naturally shaded by forest trees and without the use of chemicals. The station pays farmers premium prices for high-quality crops and supports them even outside the harvest season. In addition to premium purchase prices, the station also helps growers outside of harvest season. For example, it provides them with medical care and, during the challenging rainy season, offers financial support when they need it most.

After harvest, the coffee was processed using the washed method. The coffee cherries were first de-pulped, and the beans were then fermented in water before being dried. This processing method enhanced the clean, light, and balanced character of the resulting cup and allowed the fresh, fruity notes to shine through. The coffee received a score exceeding 87 out of 100 and is roasted for espresso.

  • Altitude: approximately 2,100 m above sea level
