The next season of the “Filter” series from Kmen Coffee Roasters is here, and this time it features coffee from Peru. This series is designed for an everyday filter brew that’s easy to drink but anything but ordinary. The cup offers notes of grapes, mandarins, and nectarines, resulting in a fresh, juicy, and pleasantly fruity flavor. Grapes lend it lightness, mandarins add a brighter citrus note, and nectarines soften the entire profile with a sweeter fruity note. The coffee is part of the “When You’re Just Exploring” collection and perfectly captures its spirit—it’s approachable, playful, and still interesting enough that you’ll want to come back to it again and again.

The beans come from Peru, specifically from the El Corazón region in Chirinos, from the Finca La Esperanza farm. It is owned by Fidel Huancas, a third-generation farmer who inherited the land from his father and gradually transformed it into a place dedicated to specialty coffee. The farm’s name means “Hope” and aptly captures Fidel’s efforts to continually elevate the quality of his production. In recent years, the farm has undergone a significant replanting effort, and the Caturra variety plays a major role here, as it thrives in the northern Peruvian terroir. Fidel also works with recommendations from the regional cooperative and the Falcon Coffee Perú team, but he considers his own determination, diligence, and attention to detail to be the most important factors.

The coffee was processed using the washed method. After harvest, the skin and pulp are removed from the cherries; the beans then undergo fermentation and washing to remove any remaining sticky layer around the bean. The coffee is then dried to the desired moisture content and prepared for further sorting. The washed method is used for coffees like this primarily to ensure that the resulting cup is clean, well-defined, and free of heavy fermentation notes. In the case of this lot, the processing aligns with the simple philosophy of the entire Filtr filtr line: to offer coffee with a clear origin, meticulous processing, and an approachable character suitable for everyday brewing.
