Hejno Kafe by Birdsong Coffee is a specialty coffee roasted for drip brewing, designed for everyday enjoyment without the hassle of choosing. The “Hejno Edition”naturally evolves throughout the year based on current harvests, but always maintains a balanced and elegant flavor profile. Currently, you’ll find washed Ugandan Wanale in your cup , with notes of red apple, sweet toffee, and roasted hazelnuts. The coffee has a clean, sweet, and subtly nutty character, with a pleasant juiciness and smooth body. It works great in a V60, Chemex, Aeropress, and French press, and is ideal for both your daily morning filter brew and a slower-paced weekend sip.
The coffee comes from the Mt. Elgon area in eastern Uganda, specifically the Bududa region, where it is grown at an altitude of 2,100 to 2,200 meters above sea level. Behind the production is Coffee Yard, led by Norman Mukuru, an experienced producer focused on high-quality and transparent coffee processing. Coffee Yard collaborates with local farmers through a network of so-called lead farmers, who organize the purchase, monitor quality, and train other growers directly within the communities. This results in consistent lots with an emphasis on clean flavor and fair treatment of farmers. Coffee trees of the Nyasaland, SL14, and SL28 varieties grow here in a mountainous climate and volcanic soil, which imparts sweetness, gentle acidity, and an elegant character to the coffee.
The coffee was processed using the washed method, which highlights the clarity and distinctness of the flavors. After being hand-harvested, the ripe cherries are pulped, fermented, and then dried to optimal moisture content. Each batch undergoes careful sorting and cupping to ensure the consistency of the final profile. The washed processing, combined with the high altitude, gives this Ugandan coffee a fresh character, pleasant sweetness, and a subtle, tea-like lightness. The result is a balanced filter coffee that is ideal for anyone who enjoys clean, sweet, fruity-nutty coffees.
