Summer is the perfect time for adventure—and sometimes the greatest ones begin right in a cup of coffee. The limited-edition PIRATE RUM from The Naughty Dog is exactly that. This exceptional coffee offers a unique flavor profile that blends the world of specialty coffee with the unmistakable character of Caribbean rum. From the very first whiff, you’ll be enveloped by a seductive aroma blending coconut, caramel, black currant, and a subtle hint of alcohol. On the palate, a complex harmony of higher acidity and sweet notes unfolds, evoking sun-kissed wooden barrels, warm rum, and exotic fruits. Whether you brew it as a pour-over or an espresso, a unique taste experience awaits that will transport you aboard a pirate ship anchored somewhere off the Caribbean coast.

This specialty coffee comes from the Karimikui farm in the Gichugu area, located in Kirinyaga—a region renowned for growing high-quality Kenyan coffee. The farm sits at an elevation between 1,600 and 1,900 meters, providing ideal conditions for growing the Batian, SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11. Harvesting is done by hand, and every step is carried out with the care that local farmers devote not only to the quality of the beans themselves but also to protecting the environment and supporting the local community.

The SL28 and SL34 varieties are processed using the washed method, which ensures a clean and balanced flavor profile that highlights the natural character of the variety. After fermentation and washing, the coffee is further aged in wooden barrels that previously held Caribbean rum, where it absorbs subtle notes of alcohol, spices, and vanilla. This process is time-consuming and requires careful monitoring, but the result is a truly exceptional taste experience.
