This specialty coffee originates from the picturesque Songwe region, specifically the Mbozi district, which is renowned for its exceptionally fertile soil and ideal climatic conditions. In addition to top-quality coffee, cocoa, tea, and exotic spices also thrive here. The high quality of the Bourbon and N39 beans is primarily due to the high altitude, intense sunlight, and abundant rainfall that characterize the region. The beans come from smallholder farmers organized under the Mbewe AMCOS cooperative. They grow coffee trees on their small plots and harvest all the cherries exclusively by hand, ensuring that only the ripest fruits are selected. They then deliver their harvest to central washing stations, which this company—founded in 2018—owns and operates itself to ensure maximum control over the final product.
The processing itself begins at the modern Mbewe CPU station, which was built as recently as 2024 and processed an impressive 16 tons of cherries in its very first year. The coffee is processed here using theclassic wet method, which highlights its purity and bright acidity. After the farmers carefully hull and sort the cherries, a fermentation phase lasting 24 to 36 hours follows. After thorough washing with clean water, the so-called parchment coffee is transferred to raised African beds. Here, the beans are dried in direct sunlight for 7 to 14 days, depending on the current weather.
