This Rwandan coffee is reminiscent of a spoonful of wild berry jam, to which juicy stone fruits and the delicate sweetness of milk chocolate are gradually added. Rwanda Musaza from the Czech roaster Oh My Bean has a pleasantly fruity character, medium acidity and body, and a sweetness that nicely rounds out the entire cup. Although it is a naturally processed coffee, it retains a clean and elegant profile. The result is a balanced espresso that maintains its fruitiness even when combined with milk.
The coffee comes from the Kirehe District in eastern Rwanda, and its cherries are sent to the Musaza processing station. The farms that supply the station are located at an elevation of approximately 1,500 to 1,670 meters. Musaza is led by Jean Paul Horanimpundu, who, in addition to ensuring production quality, also focuses on the long-term development of local farmers and their communities. This lot consists of the Red Bourbon variety, which has a long history in Rwanda and is one of the most widespread varieties there.
After harvest, the coffee undergoes natural processing, during which the carefully hand-picked coffee cherries are dried whole until they reach the desired moisture content. During drying, they are turned regularly to ensure an even process and minimize the risk of unwanted fermentation. The contact between the beans and the pulp during this process enhances the sweetness and fruity character, which in the case of Musaza translates into juicy notes of forest and stone fruits complemented by chocolatey sweetness.
