Rwanda KIRAMBO from the Czech roastery Mia Coffee Roastery captivates with its clean, fresh, and beautifully balanced profile. The flavor opens with sweet cranberries, complemented by juicy and zesty lime. The fruity freshness is gradually softened by a pleasant sweetness, and a smooth caramel note emerges in the finish, rounding out the entire cup. The result is a light and lively espresso with pronounced fruitiness, pleasant sweetness, and a clean finish.
The beans for this coffee come from the Nyamasheke region in western Rwanda, where coffee trees grow at an elevation of approximately 1 ,545 to 1,800 meters above sea level near Lake Kivu. Cherries from local smallholder farmers are transported to the Kirambo processing station, which was built in 2008. After several years of unstable operations, the station was taken over in 2017 by the Rwanda Trading Company, which, starting the following season, began systematically collaborating with farmers, focusing on their training and improving the quality of their production. The combination of higher elevations, regular rainfall, and volcanic soil creates excellent conditions in Nyamasheke for growing coffee with a clean and vibrant flavor profile.
The coffee consists of Red Bourbon, a traditional variety widely cultivated in Rwanda. It is prized for its natural sweetness, balanced acidity, and ability to offer clean fruity notes—which align well with the combination of cranberries, lime, and caramel found in this lot. The beans underwent washed processing, in which, after sorting the ripe cherries, the skin and pulp are removed, the beans are fermented, and then washed. The coffee is then slowly dried on elevated African drying beds. The washed process helps preserve the cup’s distinctive clarity and allows the fresh fruitiness and subtle sweetness of Red Bourbon to shine through.
