The Nordbeans roastery has supplied us with a special treat: the Rumu Damo nanolot from Ethiopia. There’s no denying the uniqueness of this coffee—only a very small number of bags were produced. The flavor is pleasantly fruity, sweet, and floral. You’ll be delighted by its full body, complemented by moderate acidity. On the palate, you’ll experience the freshness of nectarines combined with the tartness of lemongrass, which highlights the sweetness of strawberries. The coffee is roasted for pour-over, and you can be sure right now that it will make for an absolutely fabulous cup.

The beans come from the Sidama region of Ethiopia and are part of a truly small, carefully selected lot that is almost the pure essence of a specific location and harvest. Rumu Damo is a station managed by the Dukamo family through Daye Bensa Coffee. The company was founded by brothers Assefa and Mulugeta Dukamo with the goal of supporting smallholder farmers, who previously had to travel dozens of kilometers with their harvest. Thanks to the processing stations that have been built, growers now have much easier access to coffee processing, which improves the quality of the entire process, from cherry harvesting to drying. Some 600 small-scale growers of the Heirloom variety supply coffee to the station. The Daye Bensa station is of such high quality that it ranked among the top entries in the 2020 Cup of Excellence competition. The Nordbeans roastery has been collaborating with this company since 2018, and the results are always absolute gems.

The beans’ unique flavor is also brought out by their processing, which combines the washed method with anaerobic fermentation—a process in which the beans ripen without exposure to oxygen. After harvest, the skins and pulp are first removed from the berries through washing, and then the beans are transferred to sealed containers without oxygen, where they ferment. Finally, the coffee is dried and is ready to be shipped around the world.
