This Ethiopian coffee from September Coffee will remind you of grape lemonade paired with a few blackberries. The distinctly fruity flavor is complemented by a subtle note of rose water, which adds a floral touch to the whole combination. The juicy acidity pleasantly stimulates the taste buds, while the silky body and long, sweet finish invite you to take another sip. In your cup, you’ll enjoy a blend of freshness, fruity sweetness, and smoothness that gives way to both pronounced notes of dark fruit and delicate floral nuances.
The coffee comes from the Arbegona area in Ethiopia’s Sidama region. Behind the 2026 harvest are Dege Mullugeta and his father, Muntasha Mullugeta, with whom September has been collaborating for three years now. The coffee’s name pays tribute to Dege, who oversees most of the farming work. His father returned to Bursa in 2021 and began processing coffee at his own drying station, Dawencho. His work has been marked by successes in the Cup of Excellence competition. In 2022, four of the ten highest-rated lots were coffees he helped process. Among them was the winning coffee from his brother-in-law, Legesse Botola, processed at a station next to Mullugeta’s farm.
This lot underwent natural processing with anaerobic fermentation—that is, fermentation without oxygen—combined with drying the coffee as whole cherries. It is the JARC 74158 variety, which the Ethiopian Jimma Agricultural Research Center introduced for cultivation in 1979. It originates from a selection of parent plants from the Metu region in the Illuababora zone and was chosen for its high yield potential and resistance to coffee cherry disease.
