Colombia COCONUT SUNDAZE from Oh My Bean Roastery is a limited-edition summer blend that’s been carving its own path from the very beginning. The cup is dominated by coconut, complemented by notes of apple and caramel, which together create a flavor reminiscent of a sweet dessert. Yet it doesn’t feel heavy or overly sweet, as the washed portion of the blend adds freshness to the cup and pleasantly balances the coconut. It shines brilliantly when brewed with a filter, and on hot summer days, it’s also worth trying over ice.
Behind the creation of this limited-edition summer blend are two farmers from Colombia’s Huila region: Argenys Rojas Hoyos and Jefferson Adrián Motta. Argenys runs the Los Andes farm, which she has expanded over the years from its original three to eighteen hectares, and in addition to growing coffee, she also holds a law degree. Jefferson runs the Motta farm, where he focuses primarily on experimental processing and finding new ways to evolve the flavor profile of his coffees. By combining their different approaches, they’ve created a blend that merges the purity of washed coffee with a bolder, experimental component.
As mentioned earlier, Coconut Sundaze is a blend of washed coffee from Argenys Rojas and an experimentally processed lot of the Ombligón variety from Jefferson Motta’s farm. The distinctive coconut notes are not created by adding flavorings but through controlled co-fermentation, which uses selected yeasts along with coconut and caramel must. Subsequent fermentation and gentle drying help preserve the coffee’s purity and distinctive aroma without overshadowing its natural character.
