A silky and fruity explosion of flavors – Berry Blues from DAK Roasters is a coffee that will captivate you from the very first sip! This select coffee from the Guji region of Ethiopia offers notes of blueberries, purple grapes, myrtle liqueur, and delicate cashew butter, complemented by a sweetness reminiscent of grape soda. Thanks to its light filter roast, it is both juicy and velvety, appealing to lovers of fruity, modern profiles with a distinctive complexity. If you are looking for a coffee that is playful, tropical and yet clean, Berry Blues is the obvious choice.

The coffee comes from the hands of producer Esayas Beriso, who grows native Heirloom varieties in the high-altitude region of Guji. This region is renowned for its diverse biodiversity and rich soil, which supports the development of distinctly aromatic coffees. Thanks to shade-grown cultivation, the cherries ripen more slowly, which is reflected in their intense sweetness and depth of flavor. Esayas Beriso is one of the farmers who is not afraid to experiment with modern processing methods, which is why his coffees are among the most sought-after in Guji.

The processing method is shade-dried anaerobic natural – the coffee cherries are dried in the shade and fermented in a closed environment, which gives the cup a silky texture, fullness, and complex fruity notes. This process emphasizes the sweetness while preserving the purity typical of Ethiopian coffees. The result is a coffee that combines the best of traditional Ethiopian profiles with a modern approach to processing.

vinea (grape soda) - something similar, yes
myrtle liqueur (Mirto) - that's the one with a blueberry-spicy flavor, so yes
cashew butter, mainly in aroma and aftertaste, if you manage to prepare it correctly
balanced, smooth, easy to drink

You can also make espresso, or rather a pressureless espresso called "SOUP." But it tastes best when brewed traditionally in a V60, Chemex, or Aeropress—really, any filter will do.

I expected a much higher intensity, but it is surprisingly very mild and pleasant. Depending on the water temperature, it can have a slightly bitter aftertaste, so don't overdo it with the temperature. The coffee looks lightly roasted, but it is actually darker than it appears because it does not respond well to higher temperatures.

The intensity can be adjusted either by grinding the beans finer or simply by using more coffee. For the V60, I would recommend about 20g per 300ml.

A very mild coffee without any noticeable bitterness, dominated by smoothness and sweetness.
I prefer a weaker, shorter infusion and adding water.
