This Ecuadorian Sidra from Poppy Beans is an elegant, sweet, and incredibly juicy coffee with a profile that will delight you from the first sip right through to the long finish. In the cup, the distinct sweetness of cola blends with dark notes of blackberries and fresh pomegranate, creating a complex and beautifully layered character. The coffee has a slightly tea-like quality—delicate and clean—yet it possesses ample sweetness and depth.

The coffee comes from the legendary Hacienda La Papaya farm in the Saraguro Formation region of Ecuador’s Loja province. Producer Juan Peña is known for his precise and scientific approach to coffee cultivation and has long been among the most respected producers in Ecuador. The farm is situated at a high altitude of 1,800–2,100 meters above sea level, where the slow ripening of the coffee cherries allows for the development of complex flavors and pronounced sweetness. Hacienda La Papaya also has a strong social impact—most of the workers are women from the local community, thanks to which the farm supports stable employment and regional development.

The clean and elegant character of this coffee is achieved through washed processing, which highlights its juiciness, sweetness, and tea-like lightness. After careful harvesting, the cherries undergo thorough sorting and controlled fermentation, which helps develop a complex flavor profile without losing the coffee’s clarity in the cup. Subsequent slow drying at high altitude contributes to the smoothness and balance of the resulting coffee. The Sidra variety is prized for its intense aroma, floral notes, and pronounced sweetness, making it one of the most interesting modern varieties on the current specialty coffee scene.
