Colombia SUGA SUGA fromSprout Coffee Roasters is a natural Gesha from the El Placer farm in Colombia, which does exactly what its name promises—it delivers sweetness in a big way. In the cup, juicy papaya appears first—ripe, tropical, and slightly creamy. Right behind it comes panela, or unrefined cane sugar, which gives the coffee a deep caramel sweetness and a beautifully round body. In the background , a hint of red pepper shines through — delicately spicy and slightly pungent—giving the coffee not just sweetness but also an intriguing tension. It’s a bold, complex, and very juicy pour-over that’s best sipped slowly, as each sip reveals a slightly different layer.
Behind this coffee is Sebastián Ramírez, a fourth-generation producer and the face of El Placer Farm in Colombia. His work is built on a combination of innovation, precision, and respect for the coffee’s origin. At El Placer Farms, they focus on exceptional taste experiences, but also on transparency, sustainability, and community collaboration. This Gesha comes from the Quindío and Huila regions, where it is grown at an altitude of 1,200–2,100 meters above sea level. The resulting character of the coffee is no accident—it is a combination of terroir, variety, careful cherry selection, and Sebastián’s thoughtful approach to processing.
This is done using the natural method. For this lot, cherries are selected in a ratio of 95% fully ripe and 5% semi-ripe to combine sweetness, fruitiness, and body in the flavor. The whole cherries are dried with the pulp, allowing the coffee to have longer contact with the fruit and develop more pronounced sweetness and depth. Drying takes place slowly and under controlled conditions on raised beds, where the cherries are turned regularly until the ideal moisture content is reached. It is precisely this process that helps highlight the tropical fruit notes, preserve the purity, and keep the coffee beautifully balanced.
