The Dutch roastery Sprout Coffee Roasters brings you absolutely amazing coffee with a stylish twist. These beans from Colombia will surprise you with their fresh acidity and passionfruit notes, complemented by subtle hints of coconut and rose. If you sometimes like to go for something a little crazier and funkier, this coffee is exactly for you! After all, what’s funkier than beans processed using co-infusion?

The beans come from the Calarcá area in Colombia’s Quindío region. Here, farmer Julio Cesar Madrid tends to them on his farm, Finca La Milán; he enjoys experimenting with how he processes his harvest and isn’t afraid to try unconventional methods. He grows the coffee trees at an elevation of 1,400 meters, and inside the package you’ll find Caturra beans, one of the well-known varieties grown in Colombia. But don’t expect anything boring—it’s precisely this experimental processing that takes these beans in a completely different direction and gives them a distinctive and unusual character.

And it’s the processing that makes this coffee such a wild ride. Caturra undergoes the Maypop Co-Infused Experimental method, in which starter cultures of yeast and bacteria are used during fermentation alongside Maypop—a type of passionfruit notable for its purple color. It’s known for its striking purple flowers and edible fruit. This isn’t just about adding flavor to the finished coffee—it’s a process that shapes its character right from the processing stage. It’s this combination of fermentation, starter cultures, and Maypop that gives the entire lot its unconventional character, and it truly isn’t afraid to stand out.
