Do you like light and fruity coffees? Or perhaps you've grown fond of Burundi GAKENKE HONEY from Czech roaster The Naughty Dog? Well, hold on to your hats, because this roaster is now introducing its lighter and fresher younger sister, Burundi GAKENKE, which, unlike its sibling, has undergone a washed processing. Thanks to this method, you can enjoy a fresh cup full of forest fruits, apricots, and pomelo. This fruity combo is complemented by a sweet caramel fondant flavor that perfectly rounds out the profile.

This coffee comes from the Kayanza region in northern Burundi. Thanks to its altitude of between 1,700 and 2,100 meters above sea level, fertile volcanic soil, cooler climate, and ample rainfall, coffee from this area has a rich and complex flavor profile. The coffee is then processed at the Gakenke station, which is known for its careful processing and strong cooperation with the local community. Led by director Gratien Nankwahombay, the station serves hundreds of small farmers and uses traditional washed methods, including hand sorting, wet fermentation, and drying on raised African beds. Gakenke also supports local residents through sustainable practices and quality premiums.

It is the washed processing that gives this coffee its lightness and fruitiness. This process involves peeling the coffee cherries after harvesting and then fermenting them in water tanks for 48 to 72 hours. The coffee beans are then dried on raised African beds. The result is a coffee full of floral and fruity tones, with a light body and pleasant acidity.
