Huye Mountain from Berlin-based roastery The Barn showcases the best of Rwandan coffee in the form of a clean and complex espresso. From the very first sip, this coffee captivates with its velvety texture and harmonious blend of sweet milk chocolate and bright notes of cranberry. As the cup gradually cools, further fascinating layers of flavor unfold, revealing aromatic cardamom, sweet orange, and the depth of dark cherries.
This lot comes from the Huye district in southern Rwanda, where the coffee benefits from rich soil and a high altitude of 1,770 meters. Behind its creation is producer David Rubanzangabo, a key figure in Rwandan specialty coffee and a Cup of Excellence winner. David has divided the mountain range into seven specific zones to achieve unique profiles and works closely with local farmers, providing them with social premiums. This is a 100% Red Bourbon variety, which is typical of this region and sought after for its exceptionally sweet character.
Processing takes place directly at the Huye Mountain station, ensuring perfect control. Hand-picked ripe cherries are carefully sorted upon arrival and then pulped. Controlled fermentation and washing are followed by a slow drying phase on raised African beds. This traditional washed processimparts flawless purity to the resulting bean, highlights its natural sweetness, and ensures that each bean retains its complex and clean flavor profile.
