The washed Geisha from Industra Coffee is an elegant and beautifully clean coffee that showcases the gentler side of this variety. The aroma features roses, while the cup reveals sweet, ripe raspberries and juicy orange. The fruitiness feels fresh, the floral notes lend it elegance, and the entire profile remains clean and balanced.
Behind this coffee are Hugo Pareja and Flor Lopez, who farm in the La Convención region of Cusco, Peru. Hugo began growing coffee on his own farm at the age of seventeen, and today he shares the work with his wife and three children. Originally, they grew mainly Typica, but later they obtained seeds of an unknown variety from the cooperative, which surprised them with its high quality after the first harvest. They gradually discovered that it was Geisha and established their own nursery with a thousand seedlings. According to the family, the original plants may have naturally cross-pollinated with other varieties, which is why they call this variety Inca Geisha.
Thanks to their collaboration with the cooperative, Hugo and Flor also focused on more precise selective harvesting and better control of fermentation to get the most out of their cherries. This meticulous harvesting is followed by a washed processing method, in which the beans are left to ferment after the skin and most of the pulp have been removed, and are then thoroughly washed. As a result, the coffee’s inherent character and its more subtle flavor nuances come to the fore in the final cup. This Geisha beautifully showcases its purity, floral notes, and fresh fruitiness.
