Kenya Ruera Estate – Extra by Doubleshot is a bold espresso that combines the juiciness of Kenyan coffees with a full-bodied and sweet espresso profile. The aroma features blackcurrant, red fruit, and subtle floral notes, while the flavor is dominated by citrus, stone fruit, and wild berries. The coffee has a creamy body, intense sweetness, and a long, lively aftertaste that lingers on the palate long after the last sip. It is an espresso with energy and complexity that feels exotic yet very clean and balanced.
The coffee comes from the Ruera Estate in Kiambu County, near the town of Ruiru. This private farm has long focused on producing high-quality specialty coffee while emphasizing sustainable farming practices. Their approach includes reforestation, soil erosion control, efficient waste management, and energy conservation. The farm grows a blend of traditional and modern Kenyan varieties— SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru—which together create the complex and distinctive profile typical of top-tier Kenyan coffees.
Processing is carried out using the classic Kenyan washed method, known for its ability to highlight the clarity and distinct fruitiness of the cup. After harvesting, the coffee ferments for 24 hours, then undergoes a 24-hour “cold-soak” process, during which the beans are submerged in cold water. This step helps further accentuate the sweetness and clarity of the resulting profile. The coffee is then slowly dried on African beds, where it acquires its characteristic complexity and juiciness. The result is an espresso with an intense fruity character, an elegant structure, and pronounced sweetness.
