Costa Rica Don Oscar from Doubleshot is a fruity and elegant decaffeinated espresso coffee, but you definitely won't notice it in the taste. In your cup, you can expect a juicy profile with notes reminiscent of sweet fruit, subtle acidity, and a clean, balanced aftertaste. This means you can enjoy it in the afternoon or evening without worrying that it will interfere with your sleep, while still enjoying the full experience of a premium coffee. This is the ideal choice for anyone who loves the taste of coffee but wants to have it on hand at any time of the day.

Beneficio Don Oscar is named after its founder, Mr. Oscar, who is sadly no longer with us. His legacy is continued by his sons Alejandro and Horacio, who now run the processing plant and the farm itself. The farm covers an area of 38 hectares and produces around 81 tons of green coffee each year. During the main harvest, which runs from December to March, up to 90 people work here, mostly pickers from Panama. Outside of the season, eight permanent employees, including the owners themselves, take care of the farm's daily operations. Thanks to their care and emphasis on quality, the coffee has gradually gained a reputation beyond the borders of Costa Rica.

This is the very first lot that the roastery has purchased directly from producers with whom we have been working for a long time. They imported it themselves to the Czech Republic and then had it decaffeinated in Germany using the gentle EA (ethyl acetate) method . This process, also known as "Sugar Cane Decaf," uses a natural extract from sugar cane that binds caffeine. The result is a process that not only preserves the character of the coffee, but often even enhances it, making the flavor even fruitier and fresher.

Mass production of "fines"
Recipe
I won’t be evaluating the flavor profile, but purely the mechanics: I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a coffee that generates such a large amount of fine particles (fines) when ground. It reliably and immediately clogs the Aeropress filter (ground to about 20 clicks on the Comandante); the coffee always looks like muddy water, and I’ve never managed to get it to look even slightly clear. When it settles, you’ll find grounds at the bottom like in a Turkish coffee pot, even though the coffee was filtered through paper.
Fascinating (and so much for the claim that “you can’t tell it’s decaf.” You can tell.)
