Beneficio Don Oscar is named after its founder, Mr. Oscar, who is sadly no longer with us. His legacy is continued by his sons Alejandro and Horacio, who now run the processing plant and the farm itself. The farm covers an area of 38 hectares and produces around 81 tons of green coffee each year. During the main harvest, which runs from December to March, up to 90 people work here, mostly pickers from Panama. Outside of the season, eight permanent employees, including the owners themselves, take care of the farm's daily operations. Thanks to their care and emphasis on quality, the coffee has gradually gained a reputation beyond the borders of Costa Rica.
This is the very first lot that the roastery has purchased directly from producers with whom we have been working for a long time. They imported it themselves to the Czech Republic and then had it decaffeinated in Germany using the gentle EA (ethyl acetate) method . This process, also known as "Sugar Cane Decaf," uses a natural extract from sugar cane that binds caffeine. The result is a process that not only preserves the character of the coffee, but often even enhances it, making the flavor even fruitier and fresher.
