The Filter Blend from London-based Square Mile Coffee Roasters is a seasonal filter coffee characterized by sweetness, balance, and a very pleasant everyday drinkability. The cup reveals notes of apple, fig , and frangipane— a sweeter , almond-based dessert profile that gives the entire coffee a warm and soothing character. The resulting profile is medium-bodied, round, and very approachable, without excessive acidity or distracting harshness. It’s exactly the kind of coffee that works as an all-day, everyday brew—one you’ll easily reach for in the morning, afternoon, or anytime in between. It comes across as classic in the best sense of the word: sweet, clean, balanced, and very reliable.
The blend currently consists of 50% Heza Hills and 50% La Esperanza. The Burundian component comes from Heza Hills in Kayanza, processed at the Heza Washing Station, which offers a profile built on peachy acidity, black tea, and caramelized sweetness. The Guatemalan component is La Esperanza from Huehuetenango, specifically from Cipresales in San Antonio Huista, produced by Francisco Morales and his family. It is precisely the combination of Burundian delicacy and Guatemalan depth that creates a blend that comes across as calm, sweet, and very harmonious, yet has enough character to avoid seeming flat.
Both components are processed usingthe washed method, which keeps the entire blend clean, clear, and well-structured. Here, washed processing does not mean sharpness or technical austerity, but rather clearly defined flavors and a clean profile from the first sip to the finish. This allows the sweetness of baked apple, the nutty praline base, and the dried-fruit notes of sultanas to shine through without any distracting tones. The result is a filter coffee that feels classic in the best sense of the word: sweet, balanced, medium-bodied, and very easy to drink. It’s a blend that doesn’t rely on flashy gimmicks, but rather on reliability, subtle complexity, and a cup that delivers time and time again.
