This Peru coffee from the Danish roastery The Coffee Collective, which operates in Copenhagen and Aarhus, is a filter coffee with a very elegant, aromatic, and distinctly sweet profile, characterized by clarity, freshness, and a clearly defined fruitiness. In the cup, notes of white peach, mango, and lemonade unfold , giving the coffee a light, lively, yet very smooth character. This is not the kind of fruitiness that feels overripe or heavy. On the contrary, it is a bright, vibrant, and very refined expression, in which sweetness and juiciness are beautifully balanced. White peach brings softness and a silkier fruity base, mango adds a rounder tropical sweetness, and lemonade refreshes the entire cup with light citrus energy. The result is a coffee that feels very clean and confident, yet has enough distinct character to keep you entertained from the first to the last sip. It is exactly the type of filter coffee that relies on lightness and precision, yet does not feel fragile or hollow. On the contrary, it offers sweetness, body, and a long, bright aftertaste that you’ll want to return to.

The coffee comes from Peru, specifically from Amaybamba in the Incahuasi Valley in the Cusco region . The producer is Lucio Luque, and the lot consists of the SL9 variety . The coffee trees grow at an altitude of around 2,230 meters above sea level, an elevation that provides the cherries with excellent conditions for slower ripening. Cool nights prolong the entire fruit development process and increase the concentration of sugars in the cherries, which subsequently translates into a more pronounced sweetness and greater depth of flavor. It is precisely here that we can clearly see how strongly the terroir is reflected in the final cup. High-altitude conditions give the coffee not only clarity and precision, but also a natural intensity without the need for a heavy or overly showy profile. Nuevo Progreso is a lot that comes across as very calm, yet possesses enough energy and focus to showcase the full potential of its origin. The combination of Peruvian high-altitude sweetness, the SL9 variety, and meticulous production creates a filter coffee that is delicate yet highly memorable.

The coffee is processed using the washed method, which allows its purity, clear structure, and very distinct flavor profile to shine through fully. Washed processing here is not just a technical detail, but the reason why the individual flavors in the cup unfold so precisely and without any distracting notes. It is precisely thanks to this method that the peach sweetness is so delicate and clean, the mango doesn’t feel heavy or cloying, and the lemonade note adds freshness to the cup without unnecessary sharpness. The resulting profile is aromatic and very sweet, yet still elegant and well-defined. It is a washed filter coffee that demonstrates just how attractive the combination of high altitude, precise processing, and a variety with significant flavor potential can be. In the cup, you get a coffee that is sweet, juicy, elegant, and technically very clean, but above all, a joy to drink.
