Peru Marlene Rojas from Sey Coffee is an exceptional Gesha that showcases the elegance and purity of high-altitude Peruvian coffees. In the cup , notes of ripe peach, white flowers, and fresh blueberries unfold, coming together to create a delicate, juicy, and highly complex profile. The coffee has a light, tea-like character, yet it also possesses a distinct sweetness and a long floral finish. It is a filter coffee built on precision and clarity, and with every sip, it demonstrates why Gesha ranks among the world’s most sought-after varieties.
The coffee comes from the El Nevado farm in the Inkawasi area of the Cusco region, where it is produced by Marlene Rojas at an altitude of around 2,050 meters above sea level. Sey Coffee is returning to this farm for the second year in a row, as her lot was among their all-time favorite Peruvian Geshas. The Cusco region is known for its extreme altitudes, unique terroir, and growing reputation in the world of specialty coffee. Through her work, Marlene demonstrates the immense potential Peru holds—her coffees are complex, clean, and authentically reflect the character of their origin.
Processing is done using the washed method with an emphasis on maximum cup clarity. Cherries are hand-picked only when fully ripe, then undergo flotation to remove defects and are pulped on the day of harvest. This is followed by dry fermentation for approximately 30 hours, which helps develop the coffee’s sweetness and aroma. Drying then takes place on raised beds, where the beans have plenty of space to dry slowly and evenly. The result is an exceptionally elegant and clean cup with subtle fruitiness, floral complexity, and the characteristic lightness of the Gesha variety.
