Fruity, elegant, and beautifully balanced—that’s Era from Doubleshot Roasters. This espresso is one of their staples, and you may even recognize it from coffee shops—Era is, in fact, their single-origin espresso blend and a long-standing bestseller. In the cup, you’ll find a delicate, pleasant acidity complemented by notes of dark chocolate, roasted almonds, and cherries. The result is a modern espresso with plenty of sweetness and fruitiness, yet with a chocolate base that makes it beautifully balanced and approachable.
The coffee comes from Panama, specifically the Santa Clara region in the province of Chiriquí, where it is produced by the Hartmann family. Its story also has an interesting Czech connection—the family descends from the Czech emigrant and adventurer Alois Strašil from Zábřeh in Moravia. The farm is partially located within La Amistad International Park and is known for its exceptionally diverse ecosystem. Coffee trees grow here in the shade of trees that provide a home to more than 300 species of birds. Era is a blend of the Catuaí and Caturra varieties, and Doubleshot has been collaborating with the Hartmann family since 2010.
This coffee is processed using the washed method, which helps highlight the clarity, elegance, and distinct flavor profile of the final cup. In the washed process, after harvesting, the skin and most of the pulp are removed from the coffee cherries; the beans are then fermented and washed with water to remove any remaining sticky mucilage. The coffee is then dried to the desired moisture content. One thing is certain: the washed processing method is a perfect match for Ery’s clean and elegant character.
