Nensebo G1 from Prodigal Coffee is an Ethiopian natural coffee that beautifully showcases just how clean and juicy dry-processed coffee can taste. In the cup, you’ll find blueberries, lemon, and grapes, so expect a sweet, fruity, and aromatic profile with a pleasant freshness. The blueberries bring a ripe, forest-like sweetness; the lemon beautifully brightens the coffee; and the grape notes give it a juicy, slightly juice-like character.

The coffee comes from Ethiopia, specifically the West Arsi region. For Prodigal, this lot is also interesting because it is traceable back to a single specific farm—something that isn’t always a given with Ethiopian coffees. This is a new partnership that, according to the roaster, could continue into future harvests.  In the cup, you’ll find exactly the type of Ethiopian coffee that tastes clean, sweet, fruity, and beautifully aromatic, while still maintaining a lightness and elegance.

The varieties are Heirloom, meaning local Ethiopian varieties that possess great genetic diversity and often offer floral, fruity, and tea-like notes. The processing method is natural, or dry. After harvesting, the ripe cherries were dried whole on raised beds for two weeks. This allows the sweetness of the pulp, fuller fruitiness, and more pronounced aromas to naturally infuse into the beans. After drying, the coffee was hulled, then sorted by machine and finally by hand to ensure the resulting lot was as clean as possible. It is precisely this combination of natural processing and careful sorting that gives Nensebu juicy blueberries, a fresh lemon note, sweet grapes, and a beautifully clean finish.
