Ethiopia Gedicho from the Slovak roastery Concept Coffee Roasters is exactly the kind of coffee that captivates you with its distinctive fruitiness, yet doesn’t come across as heavy or overly wild. The coffee received a cupping score of 87 points and will particularly delight anyone who enjoys fresh, aromatic, and fruity Ethiopian coffees.

Behind this lot is producer Nafkot Admasu, who grows coffee in the village of Gedicho in the renowned Yirgacheffe region. Her farm spans just half a hectare and lies at an elevation of around 2, 150 meters, where the slower ripening of the coffee cherries helps develop their distinctive sweetness and complex flavor. During harvest, Nafkot works with 35 seasonal workers and also employs six permanent team members year-round. Gedicho truly shines when brewed as a pour-over, where its clarity, lightness, and distinctive aroma come into full view. In the first sips, you can expect juicy raspberries and fresh lime, which are gradually complemented by the sweetness of ripe peaches. The aroma, reminiscent of delicate flowers, gives the coffee an elegant, almost tea-like character. As it cools, its flavor pleasantly evolves; the fruity notes become sweeter and more pronounced, while the citrus acidity feels gentler and more balanced.

Coffee trees of traditional Ethiopian varieties known as “heirloom” grow here in the shade of false banana trees, which protect them from the harsh sun and help maintain a natural and stable environment on the farm. After being hand-harvested, the whole coffee cherries are processed using the natural method, in which they are sun-dried for approximately 12 to 15 days. During this time, the beans remain inside the fruit, allowing them to develop more fruity sweetness and a more intense aroma.
