After a long time, Brno-based Industra is back with a new product from Rwanda, which is said to be very popular. A delicate coffee with caramel sweetness and ripe forest berries, followed by a rooibos aftertaste – simply a wonderfully complex cup, ideal for summer sipping.

Abadatezuka Cooperative is a group of small farmers in the Western Province of Rwanda who supply cherry coffee to the Cyato washing station, located in the Cyato sector of the Nayamasheke district in this region. The local farmers grow coffee at an altitude of up to 2,200 meters above sea level, and the washing station is located at an altitude of 1,850 meters. Coffee is brought to the Cyato washing station from the surrounding areas of Kivoga, Kageyo, Rusumo, Gatare, and Nsinduka. The washing station was founded in 2017. An interesting aspect of the local coffee is that its unique profile is said to be partly due to the local bees that live in the Nyungwe Forest and its surroundings, where the coffee is grown. Pollination by bees, fertile soil (black humus and sandy soil) and a cool climate influenced by Lake Kivu contribute to the flavor found in the cup. Farmers do not use any synthetic inputs, either as fertilizers or as protection against pests.

This coffee is processed using the natural (dry) method, which brings out its sweetness and fruity notes. After being picked by hand, the coffee cherries are carefully sorted to remove imperfect pieces and then spread out on raised African beds in a maximum layer of 2 cm. Drying takes up to 30 days, during which time the cherries are turned regularly to ensure even drying and prevent overheating or mold. At night, they are protected with tarps to prevent moisture.

It's amazing for the price. I like sweet coffee without acidity, and this one fits the bill.

I was really looking forward to the wild strawberries in the profile, but there was no trace of them. Under no circumstances could I get them out of the coffee.
