This Rwanda from Sprout Coffee is a beautifully juicy coffee that combines pronounced fruitiness with a surprisingly full body. The flavor profile features notes of red currant and nectarine, complemented by a subtly buttery aftertaste. Thanks to the washed processing method, the cup is clean and well-defined, yet it also has a denser and rounder character that is more reminiscent of natural coffees. It’s the ideal choice for anyone looking for a fruity, lively Rwandan coffee with a smooth body and a distinctive flavor profile.

The coffee comes from the southern province of Rwanda and is associated with the Fugi processing station. The coffee cherries are supplied by the Fugi Ikizere Women’s Group, which brings together women who share similar life experiences—often single mothers or widows. The group was founded in 2020 and operates as an organized entity with its own leadership, which coordinates its activities. This lot is part of an effort to achieve greater traceability for Rwandan coffee, where individual lots are linked not only to a broader region but also to a specific group of women producers. Red Bourbon coffee trees grow here at an elevation of 1,550 to 1,850 meters.

Processing is carried out using the washed method and relies on careful monitoring of every step. Upon delivery, the coffee cherries are weighed and documented to ensure full traceability. This is followed by sorting, during which the heavier, denser, high-quality cherries are separated from the lighter ones. The selected cherries are placed in plastic barrels for an eight-hour fermentation, after which they are hulled, and the parchment undergoes approximately another ten hours of wet fermentation in larger water channels. After washing , the coffee is dried for 27 days, during which it is manually sorted again and the moisture content is monitored to ensure the beans mature into a stable and clean state.
