The washed Rwanda Gitega from Pražírna Krok is a light and juicy filter coffee that combines fresh fruitiness, caramel sweetness, and a subtle tea note. In the cup, you’ll find green apple, jam, caramel, black tea, and lemon—so expect a clean and lively profile with pleasantly pronounced acidity. Green apple and lemon lend the coffee its freshness, while marmalade shifts it toward a sweeter, fruitier profile, and caramel beautifully rounds out the entire flavor. Black tea lingers in the aftertaste as an elegant finish.

The coffee comes from Rwanda, specifically the Gitega Cell area in the Cyanika sector. It is processed at the Gitega Hills washing station, which was established in 2016. The station is managed by Alex under the leadership of owner Bernard and is now one of the region’s leading processing facilities. It works with more than 1,140 small-scale growers and utilizes a network of forty collection points in the surrounding hills, allowing farmers to deliver freshly harvested cherries without lengthy transport. Gitega Hills also invests in community development, including a nursery for new saplings, wastewater treatment, and projects focused on organic fertilization and support for local households.

The variety is Red Bourbon, one of Rwanda’s most characteristic varieties, which often yields a sweet, fruity, and elegant profile with clean acidity. The processing method is washed. With this method, the skin and most of the pulp are removed after harvest, and the beans then undergo fermentation and thorough washing before drying begins. Gitega Hills currently has 180 elevated drying beds, which allow for better control and more even drying of individual lots. The washed processing helps highlight this coffee’s clarity, freshness, and tea-like elegance, while notes of caramel and marmalade keep the entire cup pleasantly sweet and balanced.
