Kenya Kamundu Estate AAfrom the Slovak roastery Kaffa is sure to delight all lovers of bold African coffees. The very first whiff reveals aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, and hibiscus, complemented by a subtle vanilla sweetness. The flavor develops notes of plums, wild berries, and creamy richness. The cup is juicy, elegant, and well-balanced, with a lively acidity and a long, sweet finish. It is precisely this combination of bold fruitiness and a velvety body that makes this coffee an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys discovering the distinctive character of Kenyan coffees.
The coffee comes from the Kamundu Estate in Kiambu County, near Nairobi. It is located at an altitude of around 1, 950 meters, where volcanic soil, regular rainfall, and a cooler climate create ideal conditions for growing specialty Arabica. The farm is managed by Sasini PLC, one of Kenya’s most respected coffee companies. On approximately 150 hectares, they grow the traditional SL28 and SL34 varieties, which are renowned for their complexity, pronounced sweetness, and juicy acidity. Rainforest Alliance certification further confirms the farm’s commitment to sustainable management and the protection of the local ecosystem.
This coffee was processed using the washed method, which is typical for top-quality Kenyan coffees. Hand-picked cherries are fermented in water tanks after the pulp is removed, then washed and dried on African beds for two to three weeks. The washed processing allows the bean’s natural character to shine through, highlighting the purity, juiciness, and clarity of individual flavors. As a result, notes of blackcurrant, raspberry, hibiscus, and delicate vanilla fully emerge in the cup.
