Ethiopia Genesis from The Barn is a coffee that embodies the very essence of the coffee world—pure, complex, and naturally distinctive. In the cup, peach and chocolate come together to create a sweet, balanced, and very pleasant profile. The coffee has a honey-like sweetness and a smooth body, making it wonderfully drinkable both as a pour-over and as an espresso. It works perfectly on its own, but also holds its own in milk-based drinks, where it retains its sweetness and delicate aroma.
The coffee comes from the Chelchele washing station in the Kochere area of the legendary Yirgacheffe region in Ethiopia. This area is known for producing some of the most distinctive coffees in the world, primarily due to its high altitude of around 2,100 meters above sea level, lush vegetation, and ideal tropical climate with alternating dry and rainy seasons. The coffee is grown here by small-scale farmers using traditional and sustainable methods, often in the shade of trees, which contributes to slower ripening and higher bean quality. A blend of original Ethiopianheirloom varieties gives the coffee its typical complexity and floral-fruity character.
Processing is done using the natural method, which highlights the sweetness and aromatic intensity. Freshly harvested cherries are first sorted by quality and then dried whole on raised beds, where they are regularly turned to ensure even drying. This process can take 8 to 25 days depending on the weather. As a result, the natural sweetness and richness of the pulp are transferred to the bean, which is reflected in a cup full of peach notes, chocolate, and a delicate floral undertone. Genesis thus represents the ideal introduction to the world of Ethiopian coffee—accessible, yet complex enough to keep you enjoying it for a long time.
