Blackberries, wild strawberries, and blueberry yogurt give this Ethiopian coffee a distinctly fruity character. Blackberry Dust from the Amsterdam-based roastery DAK is a sweet, juicy coffee with a delicate, creamy finish. Notes of small berries are complemented by a hint of yogurt, which lends the entire profile a pleasant smoothness. The roastery has included this lot from the late 2026 harvest among its limited editions and personal favorites. It will particularly delight lovers of natural Ethiopian coffees who seek pronounced fruitiness and sweetness in their coffee.
The beans come from the Buku Abel processing station in the Guji region of southern Ethiopia. Approximately 400 small-scale farmers, who farm at elevations ranging from 1,900 to 2,100 meters above sea level, supply their cherries here. Most cultivate plots ranging in size from just half a hectare to two hectares. Coffee trees grow here alongside other trees and crops intended for the families’ own consumption. The station collects the individual harvests and handles their sorting and subsequent processing.
The coffee consists of local Ethiopian varieties collectively known as “Heirloom,” which represent a diverse group of traditionally cultivated coffee trees. Natural processing begins with the hand-picking of ripe cherries, which are carefully sorted the very same day they arrive at the station. They are then spread out on elevated drying beds, where they remain until they reach the desired moisture content. Workers continuously monitor the conditions and regularly turn the cherries to ensure they dry evenly. This traditional process allows the coffee’s natural sweetness and fruity character to develop.
