Friedhats presents the Ethiopian Ashenafi Getaneh coffee from Yirgacheffe, which captivates with its clean, fresh, and distinctly aromatic profile. The flavor combines exotic mangosteen with citrusy, floral bergamot and delicate floral notes. The result is an elegant combination of fruitiness and floral lightness, with plenty of sweetness and character. The coffee is roasted for espresso, where its unusual flavor profile offers an interesting alternative to classic sweeter and chocolatey profiles. In an espresso, its natural acidity and complex, juicy fruitiness really shine through.
Behind this coffee is producer Ashenafi Getaneh from the Gerse area in the renowned Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia. Coffee trees here grow at high altitudes between 2,100 and 2,200 meters. The lot consists of Ethiopian heirloom varieties along with the 74110, 74112, and 74114 varieties. It is precisely the combination of several local varieties and the high altitude that gives this lot the foundation for its distinctive aroma. Friedhats collaborates with the importer Primavera to bring this coffee to market.
An interesting feature of this lot is its RED HONEY processing method. In honey processing, after the skin and part of the pulp are removed, a layer of sweet mucilage remains on the beans, with which the coffee is then dried. Unlike the washed method, the beans remain in closer contact with the coffee cherry remnants during drying. The result is a distinctive Ethiopian lot that combines exotic fruit, bergamot, and floral aromas. In the cup, you’ll find a wonderfully balanced flavor profile full of fresh and clean fruity notes.
