The London-based roastery Nostos Coffee brought back this exceptional washed Typica Mejorado from its first trip to Ecuador, sourced from farmer Mario Hervás at his Finca El Meridiano farm. You’ll be captivated by the complexity that gradually unfolds in a clean cup—juicy stone fruit notes like peaches, intertwined with the sweetness of mango, and finished with the elegant aroma and delicacy of green tea. The result is an elegant and pleasantly fresh coffee that you’ll enjoy not only as a pour-over but also as a clean and fruity espresso.
Finca El Meridiano is located in a quiet and remote part of Ecuador near the capital city of Quito. It lies hidden in the west beneath the Andean hills, with several natural springs and waterfalls flowing through the area. Combined with the equatorial sun and clouds, this creates ideal conditions for Typica Mejorado, which has thrived on Ecuadorian soil.
The unique Typica Mejorado, which accounts for 95% of El Meridiano’s production, is currently one of the most sought-after varieties in the world. This hybrid of native Ethiopian varieties and the old Bourbon variety is characterized by its complexity. It is as clean as Geisha, but much more layered—not only does it have a pronounced floral character, but it also has a sweeter and more pronounced body. Like most premium varieties, it is very susceptible to coffee rust and other diseases, so a great deal of work and careful attention from the farmers goes into every micro-lot.
