This time, Friedhatsroastery brings you coffee that captivates not only with its taste, but also with its story. Colombia Yacuanquer Pickers Project is a cup that combines the sweetness of vanilla, the juiciness of nectarine, and the delicate bitterness of lemon zest. This washed Arabica from the Nariño region is delicate, balanced, and refreshing, as if it carries a touch of the Colombian sun and the fresh Andean breeze. But the most interesting thing about this coffee is not just its taste—it's the story of the people behind it.
The beans come from the high-altitude region of Yacuanquer in Nariño, where coffee is grown at an altitude of up to 2,000 meters above sea level. It is here that a project that is changing the established order was created – the Pickers Project. Instead of hiring random workers without any security, 35 pickers and 20 farms have joined forces to create a system where workers are hired full-time, receive fair wages, and work in accordance with labor laws. This approach benefits everyone: farmers get experienced pickers, workers get a stable income and better conditions, and we all get higher-quality coffee that is the result of a transparent and dignified process. Exports are carried out in cooperation with Azahar Coffee, which has long supported sustainable models in the Colombian coffee sector.
The processing itself is done using the traditional washed method, which emphasizes the purity of the flavor profile. After hand-picking carefully sorted cherries, fermentation and washing follow, resulting in a cup with a delicate citrus acidity and the natural sweetness of the bean. The combination of Castillo and Colombia varieties in this case creates an elegant and harmonious whole, showing that even a community lot can offer an exceptional taste experience. This coffee is not just about what you taste on your tongue—it is about respect for human labor, about quality that did not come about by chance, but thanks to systematic and sustainable cooperation.
