Colombia Luis Enrique Cuellar from September Coffee is a clean and distinctly sweet coffee that brings to mind a glass of peach tea; its juicy character is underscored by a hint of lemon with subtle floral notes. The cup feels lively, aromatic, and playful, yet it retains its clarity and the distinctness of its individual flavors.
The coffee comes from Finca La Pradera in the Santa María area of Colombia’s Huila region. The farm is managed by brothers Luis Enrique and Robinson Cuellar, who divide the work according to their respective areas of expertise. Luis Enrique is a trained agronomist and focuses on caring for the individual plots as well as the business side of production, while Robinson is in charge of processing and drying the coffee. The farm covers a total of six hectares, 3.5 of which are planted with coffee trees. Approximately 13,000 trees of the Caturra, Pacamara, Pink Bourbon, Caturra Chiroso, and Geisha varieties are in production. The brothers also plan to continue expanding the farm’s portfolio to include the exclusive Laurina, Sidra, and Bourbon Ají varieties.
This lot consists exclusively of the Pink Bourbon variety and was processed using the washed method, which helps highlight the purity and lightness of the resulting profile. In this process, the pulp is removed after harvest, and the beans are then stripped of their residual mucilage through fermentation and washing with water. As a result, heavier fermentation notes are less pronounced in the cup, allowing the character of the variety and its place of origin to shine through. In this coffee, the washed processing is reflected in a pronounced fruity sweetness, floral aromas, and a clean, long finish.
