Colombian coffee of the year! An original Ethiopian variety grown in Colombia and processed using the washed method, this coffee will delight every coffee lover. You can look forward to fresh notes of lemon zest and subtle rhubarb acidity. The complexity of the cup is complemented by a honey sweetness.

These beans come from several small farmers under the umbrella of Las Perlitas. Farmers from the Huila, Antioquia, and Nariño regions bring their harvest here. The farms are located at altitudes ranging from 1,600 m to 2,100 m. At Las Perlitas, individual lots are combined according to flavor profiles. This approach allows individual farmers to focus on growing high-quality coffee without having to worry about exporting their product. Las Perlitas also works with farmers from the mountain village of Santa Maria, located in the heart of the famous Huila growing region. For the past 60 years, the village has been ravaged by guerrilla conflict with the FARC, and local residents have been virtually cut off from the rest of the country. The tide began to turn in 2012, when the first peace talks took place and the world finally got to taste the local coffee.

The Chiroso variety came to wider attention in 2014 when Carmen Montoya won the Cup of Excellence in Colombia with it. However, its fame was overshadowed by the Pink Bourbon variety, which is widely grown in the Huila region. The Chiroso variety is like a Colombian geisha—both morphologically (in the shape of the plant and cherries) and in terms of quality and flavor profile. It is therefore no surprise that it is becoming increasingly popular. And why the Ethiopian variety? DNA analysis has shown that this variety is genetically close to the original Ethiopian varieties.

  • Altitude: 1,900 m above sea level.
