The Dutch roastery Friedhats Coffee presents a truly exceptional competition lot from Colombia—the CGLE-17 variety—that will instantly captivate you with its complex character. This coffee represents a perfect harmony of fresh fruity notes and refined elegance, seamlessly blending the juicy flavor of ripe melon and exotic pomelo with a subtle undertone of Oolong tea. The resulting cup offers an exceptionally clean and beautifully layered flavor experience. What’s more, this exclusive lot has become a clear favorite for barista Siebe’s upcoming performance at the prestigious World Barista Championship.
The beans come from the world-renowned Colombian farm Las Margaritas, which is managed with immense care by producers Rigoberto and Luis Eduardo Herrera under the auspices of the export organization Cafe Granja La Esperanza. The plantations are located in the Caicedonia area of the Valle del Cauca region at an elevation between 1,611 and 1,661 meters above sea level. The exceptional variety designated CGLE-17 is a unique hybrid of the noble Geisha and the productive Caturra. After many years of research, this unique cultivar was first planted in 2017 and has since become the crown jewel of this Amsterdam-based roaster’s lineup.
The specific character and unique purity of this select coffee’s flavor profile are enhanced by precise processing using the Aerobic Washed method—that is, classic wet processing of the beans, preceded by carefully controlled aerobic fermentation of the cherries in the presence of air.
