Sweet, fruity, and beautifully creamy—that’s the Bolivian AMOR DE DIOS coffee from the Brno-based roastery Poppy Beans. In the cup, notes of ripe peach, nougat, and milk chocolate come together, complemented by a full body and low to medium acidity. The beans are roasted for espresso and come across as sweet and balanced, with a long finish reminiscent of caramel and brown sugar. It works well on its own, but doesn’t lose its character even when combined with milk, where it remains pleasantly sweet and distinctive.
The coffee comes from the Amor de Dios community in the Cruz Playa region of Caranavi Province, located in the Bolivian department of La Paz. René Millares Cruz oversees production, and the coffee trees grow at an elevation of 1,600 to 1,700 meters. The lot consists of the Caturra and Catuaí varieties, though Typica is also grown on the farm. Local producers primarily farm on smaller family farms and often grow citrus fruits, avocados, or passion fruit alongside coffee. The community collaborates with the ASOCAFE cooperative, which also assists with coffee processing and export.
This lot was processed using the washed method. After harvest , the skin and most of the pulp are removed from the coffee cherries; the beans are then washed and prepared for drying. This processing method helps preserve the coffee’s clean and balanced character and allows its natural sweetness and acidity to shine through. For the Amor de Dios coffee, this washed processing fits well into the overall profile, which comes across as clean, sweet, and pleasantly distinct.
