The coffee comes from the renowned Nyeri region, specifically the Othaya area, which is globally recognized as one of the best coffee-growing locations in Kenya. Coffee trees here grow at an altitude of 1,750–1,850 meters above sea level, where fertile volcanic soil meets a stable climate. These conditions allow the coffee cherries to ripen very slowly, leading to an incredible concentration of sugars and the development of deep aromatic compounds. Small local farmers are involved in production, meticulously cultivating the traditional varieties SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11, which are prized for their high flavor potential and resilience.
The coffee’s character is shaped by the natural processing method, in which whole coffee cherries are sun-dried. During this process, the sweet and fruity components from the pulp are transferred to the bean, giving the coffee its distinctive fruitiness and body. Thanks to careful drying and quality control, the result is a cup with a clean, sweet, and complex profile.
