Juicy, sweet, and beautifully refreshing—that’s this Colombian coffee from the Canadian roaster September Coffee. Las Perlitas offers a playful, fruity profile that blends sweet red berries reminiscent of raspberries and strawberries, the citrusy freshness of lemon and lime, and a subtle apple-like acidity that evokes candied pear in the cup. The coffee has a light body and a sparkling finish, so if you enjoy clean, lively, and fruity coffees, you’ll likely find this one to your liking.
The beans come from the Huila region of Colombia and are part of Coffee Quest’s Las Perlitas program. September has been working with this project for four harvests now. This is not a single-farm coffee, but rather a field blend composed of smaller lots from local producers. The Caturra and Pink Bourbon varieties predominate in this lot, with the coffee growing at an elevation of around 2, 100 meters. Pink Bourbon is grown primarily in the Huila region and is known for its sweet and fresh character, which comes through nicely in the final cup.
Processing is carried out using the anaerobic washed method, employing a technique known as Cochadas. Every four to seven days, the pulp is removed from the newly harvested cherries and added to the previous batches, gradually blending and unifying the individual harvests. On the final day, the coffee is washed and prepared for drying. Most of the Las Perlitas lot ferments in water, which helps create a cleaner flavor profile without overly fermented notes. The result is a coffee that retains its fruity juiciness while also tasting very clean and elegant.
