The Fuyan farm and washing station, run by Mrs. Na and Mr. Li, is located in the mountainous Menglian region of Yunnan , China. Mr. Li, a native of Yunnan, switched from working on rubber plantations and in the tea industry to growing high-quality coffee alongside his wife. Today, Fuyan is known for producing some of the best coffees in Yunnan, thanks to careful quality control and strong relationships with local Lahu ethnic group pickers. The 80-acre farm is dotted with shade trees such as macadamia trees, fruit trees, and legumes. In addition to coffee, Fuyan is a thriving mixed farm that also grows specialty tea, raises chickens, pigs, ducks, and fish, and cultivates orchids, chili peppers, and Chinese herbs—all in the lush, biodiverse landscape of the Yunnan mountains.
What makes this coffee truly delicious is its dry (natural) processing, in which the coffee cherries are carefully dried in the sun. This process ensures that the coffee retains its full fruity sweetness and intense flavor. After harvesting, the cherries are hand-picked and spread out on drying beds, where they are regularly turned to ensure even drying. This processing method, combined with ideal natural conditions, creates a coffee that is not only incredibly tasty, but also full of character and subtle complexity.
